The music in streets of rage 4 is criminally underplayed. Sure they only had yuzo koshiro for like one song, but they still managed to knock it out the park regardless

Luigis Mansion (Gamecube)

This game is kind of ass. SO MUCH BACKTRACKING. Like even by 2001s standards. AND LUIGI WALKS SO SLOW. You get to a door that requires 20 boos, go back through the mansion and get the boos, return all the way back to the door, beat the boss in the next room, game teleports you back to the lab, go all the way back to boss room, next door the powers out, backtrack all the way to the basement to turn the power back on. Fuck me man

Collect a bunch of coins and currency that have literally zero use. Even the simple act of healing is grindy pain in the ass. Controls are ass. Moving and turning is a huge chore, and why does the A button call mario? We can clearly see the room where hes being held captive. I just love that the largest button on the controller does the most useless shit

Theres so much questionable shit in this game, but i do like the unique portrait ghosts and boss fights. Theyre all like their own unique puzzle, and they get a lot of mileage out of the otherwise simple mechanics. Lots of personality and charm too, like luigi singing along to all the quirky totaka music. At least the game tries something different, its got a lot of charm, and it has a pretty dedicated fanbase. On the other hand its a rushed launch game. I really want to like it more than i do, but theres too core design issues to ignore.

But i also cant really imagine my gamecube collection being complete without it

Professor Layton and the Curious Village

I always wanted to get into these games, and I've become really nostalgic for the OG NDS these days, so yeah I enjoyed this one quite a bit. The puzzles always made me feel either like a genius or completely stupid. I like how literally everything in the game is a puzzle, and how the villagers' obsession with puzzles is explained by the plot twist. It's crazy there's such a huge amount of puzzles too: like 120 in the main game, 50 more in the postgame, AND there were ones you could download online for free (wish I could still get those). Also always cool to see a DS game that gets a lot of mileage out of the touch screen. Overall 8.5, very solid game, excited to play more

That makes me sad, because i kinda wanted to go back and platinum all the Fromsoft games. How is the Sekiro platinum?

Ive had time to let Bloodborne digest, and I think Elden Ring is still my #1. Bloodborne is a close second tho. Dark Souls 1 at #3.

Bloodborne is basically perfect, so it comes down to personal preference and nitpicks. The chalice dungeons are mostly to blame, but ERs sense of exploration and discovery is ultimately what wins me over. Bloodbornes maps were a bit too mazelike and i just felt it was too easy to miss stuff (even by fromsoft standards)

And who tf decided gestures can be done with motion controls lol. I would be mashing x to grab an item, an enemy would run up, id sit up off the couch, which would make my controller move, and now suddenly my character is waving hello

Elden Ring is probably my #1 favorite game of all time, so it was gonna be a tall order either way, but its still pretty insane that Bloodborne is probably gonna smash the rest of my top 10 somehow. Bloodborne is just SO GOOD. Top tier video game combat, lore and horror. Ive never been cut in half by a placenta before. That wasnt something i knew i needed.

So yeah thanks everyone for helping with this topic. Ive still never played Dark Souls II, and I never finished Sekiro, so ill probably do a playthrough topic on one of those next (but it might be a while before i get around to them because the elden ring dlc is gonna take priority lol)

I wouldn't call it easy lol. Those chalice dungeons almost drove me to madness. Luckily i had mariataylor there to show me the way

Btw ive been watching bloodborne lore videos nonstop, and its insane. Crazy how Bloodborne probably has the best combat AND best lore of any video game. This game is truly something special

What a ride. 10/10 game obviously. I don't usually care about trophies, but for Fromsoft games i'm willing to make a once in a lifetime exception. I like how the platinums in these games are a good way to see everything, rather than be a bunch of meaningless tasks

Yeah I got him earlier on. Also a very cool fight. I love how he loses his legs and drags his body around with the lava oozing out behind him

I beat the defiled fire watchdog. Had to equip +15% fire defense and had to summon Queen Killer whos some naked bro with a wheel and a cannon

Living failures down, and Lady Maria down. Lady Maria was AWESOME. I love it when i have to break the pizza cutter in half and pull out the gun for the super fast 1v1s. That fight truly felt like i was playing some insane fighting game

And winning that fight gave me the courage to fight the first defiled dungeon boss, and i just parried him to death like it was nothing. Also i had all three HP runes equipped to help deal with the curse

Its crazy to me the Elden Ring dlc has been in development for almost a year. Like what are they even cooking up over there??

But yeah this is already top dlc. Smash ultimate is up there too. I never got around to the outer wilds dlc because that final run is too hard to replicate lol. I can never get that damn portal to work right

Thankfully the chalice dungeons have leveled me up enough to go further into the dlc, and oh my god the research hall is AMAZING. This is some silent hill shit. This is peak video game horror

Ebrietas down. Very cool atmosphere + boss design. Im guessing she was one of the great one babies who grew up into an abomination. Theres a dead great one down here too with player notes saying remember queen so i guess that was her mom or something.

Actually just realizing this place is an orphanage and theres a bunch of tiny mutants crawling around, so thats creepy

Cainhurst castle was very cool. Youd think winter castle with vampires and wraiths would get tired eventually, but theres just something about the fromsoft touch that breathes new life into dark fantasy

i guess i need to google them. I watched vaatividyas gascoigne lore video, and i completely missed his daughter, let alone sending her to oedon (even though she gets eaten by the pig which is so ridiculously dark i love it lmao)
