The theme of "humans are the real monsters" is an over-used theme and it killed a lot of interest for me on this show.

I am curious if my opinion would have changed if I played Chrono Trigger first. Since Chrono Cross was the first JRPG I really got into, I never had the feeling of disappointment a lot of others seem to have with the game. Looking back, I can understand their complaints, but I already had so much fun with the game by that point that the problems never really bothered me.

So in your opinion, "good writing" is shoehorning a character into the game for literally no reason other than to establish that they're not a different character who is not demonstrated in the game itself to BE that character and was only briefly considered as such during the early stages of development?

And yet the crux of their argument against the large roster of recruitables is that the game didn't drag Magus back into the plot just to ruin him as well?

If you're gonna give Chrono Cross flak for having too many playable characters with no story relevance, you have to give Suikoden that exact same flak.
