Played Gen 1 (Yellow), Gen 3, gave up on Gen 4 like 2 hours in because eww, then waited until Gen 7 to try again. So maybe it was a time thing, or remembering that Diamond was cancer, but I thought Sun/Moon was great

Yeah if you want a real experience you need to go to an actual event run by the competitive community with at least 30 people. Most tournaments in game shops with weird rules or non-standard entry fees are first-time TOs trying to not suck at running tournaments. It's harder than it looks, I have 7 staff members under me just for our 200-man monthly. Newbies underestimate logistics.

To other points in the topic:
Community is very hit and miss, depends on region, but calls it trash is...fine. I'm aware

Find your local community's FB group (everything the 8 regions around me runs on FB) and get in that way. It steers you better than some back alley tournament that's actually just a Russian guy harvesting kidneys.

I never understood that I was supposed to walk jump out of that pit room as a youngster, despite the well-designed hint.

I remember instead spending 20 minutes running from the the previous room's tiny platform into the pit room and doing a running jump and morph balling at the top to clear it by pixels. Still haven't wall-jumped to this day.

11/10 game though. Masterpiece.

I live in Portland and think that sounds more like a Portlandia sketch than real life. My girlfriend's favorite cuisine is Mexican, so besides Chipotle we tend to get around and try as many places as we can (and there's fucking plenty in the PDX metro). I will say I've still yet to be served by a non-Latino person. I don't really care who owns it; I would assume financial status being equal the Latino person with the killer family recipe for enchiladas or something would have the advantage since we tend to judge pretty harshly around here on taste.

So I slant toward capitalism on this; I don't care who opens what kind of restaurant, it just better not suck. But I also wish the Latino/minority population had equal access to capital to start said business.

Sometimes I think Portland feels guilty for being the whitest major metro and wants to sound nice while currently gentrifying the north side.

I'm 6'2, came out of high school at 145, did an entire month in the Navy that somehow put me at around 160 as my new "base weight", went from there to 175 and back a lot until grad school, where I went from 160 to 180 with weightlifting.

I hang around 180 now. Heaviest was like 193 during my grad school bulk.

Who said anything about a CEO being able to run a company with no workers? Whatever title you want to give "the leader of a company", workers can't just show up to work and do......what? What are they told to do? Do they have the skill to steer the company to see their profits maximize? If so, then they should become the leader and be compensated accordingly! Oh wait, that's what a CEO is!

Or everyone understands what the company is supposed to do and they get along just fine without a figurehead because they already have the direction they need. Bob does the finances and the transactions, Janice helps oversee everyone to make sure the task is going right, and Bill makes sure the supplies stay stocked.

They had a CEO but he died, and they collectively decided to go in a better direction and start making more money.

On the other hand, George is running a business and keeps shortchanging his workers, and in the end, due to inflation and gas prices, it costs more to get to work than they actually get paid, so they're all forced quit. Surely, since the CEO is such an important position, he should be fine, right?

Oh wait, he has no work experience, he doesn't know how to operate the machinery, the finances go nuts. He has a plan but no one to implement it, and his shmoozing isn't making him any money.

EDIT: Also, seriously? Compensated for what? CEOs literally do the least work of anyone in the company, and make the most money. You're compensating them for having to do less work. It's absurd.

....you should take a business class. ANY business class. It's clear you have no foundation of knowledge in business management or adminstration.

Hobbies in general I guess is my answer. I've met basically all of my friends through gaming at this point. As the community leader and top player for competitive Smash in Oregon I kinda get more friends than I want really (I'm an introvert at heart, I just wanna be alone). But connecting over something (games, basketball, etc.) in an organized fashion is probably easiest. I never make work friends, or random bar friends, or have any college friends left.

You're also telling people/companies/shareholders what to do with their money in a pretty egregious way. The only maximum price on anything is what people are willing (or able) to pay (this is a standard capitalist philosophy). Don't get me wrong, Martin Shrekeli or whatever the hell is name is is a fucking scumlord, but in terms of something like paying someone "too much" of your money to do a job...not on board.

Also of note, base salary is basically never the bulk of a CEO's earnings; it's all in stock and stock options. It's how you tie their pay with the performance of the company.

So I had a dream that I was in some random apartment, and Wade Barrett came in, and apparently we were some sort of casual acquaintances, and while talking to him I decided I needed to immediately get into this topic and brag about being in the same home as Wade Barrett.

He then pulls out a GameCube that looked weird with the intention of playing Project:M (the Brawl mod to make it Melee/suck more) which isn't even possible on a GameCube, but then my sister, grandfather, father, and I think someone else all came in with controllers, ready to go (my grandpa had a 64 controller for some reason).

That's where I lost the dream, but since it literally involved this topic and the most agregiously misused talent of the last 10 years, I had to share.

Competitive Melee is great to watch, and complete AIDS to play. It's also the simultaneously the best and worst to run large events for, so that drives me nuts every month.

Despite being a top Brawl player though, Melee is probably the better competitive game. Brawl is just so brutal to play now. The once-a-year nostalgia bracket is plenty for me at this point.

I think Smash 4 is the best if competitive and casual worlds. They need to patch a few things still, but it's not an awkward 7-character pyramid of viability (hell I'm #1 in my region with fucking Bowser.)

I got used to constantly throwing out 30+ power weapon. The inventory limitations meant I was pretty constantly using high power weapons even against common enemies because they were the weakest weapons I had left. It also lead to me leaving behind the weapons you get after clearing a dungeon in their treasure boxes to save them for when I needed them. I beat the game and they are still in their treasure boxes. >_>

I'm in this boat. I beat it after 45+ hours without ever even knowing I could upgrade my inventory, and had maybe even less than 8 seeds. Like, they were just never a thing for me, especially playing completely blind.

A long ass time ago I did a topic series which asked B8 users various questions by giving them a type of "job" and how much money would it take for them to do it. This was one of them... although I forget how I stumbled upon this technically a second cousin does not count as incest and the "free" rate was overwhelming.

Although, while it's pretty much a 100% certainty that someone in the world has married a blood sibling that was adopted by a different family and second cousins just fucking is even "more" likely than that. I do think that knowingly doing it depends on like how hot they actually are, the aftermath that follows, etc. Most issues with it actually stem from the offspring, so if that's taken out of the equation it simply becomes, how do we deal with kinds being related later?

Story recently came out that fraternal twins married and only found out because they were having issues conceiving.

I also found out at 25 that my father is actually my step father, which kind of made me reevaluate the cousin situation since we weren't close anyway. I don't think I ever came to a real conclusion, but it's weird.

Presents > Winning Run. Not sure if it's as charming to a new player now, but that game does simple baseball so perfectly it's insane. Winning Run felt like it was...trying too hard. But I'm child of the 90s and a diehard Griffey fan so I loved Winning Run anyway

All of those sports games are in "never, ever, ever happening" territory, because of licensing. (There's a reason we keep getting re-releases of Tecmo Bowl but not Tecmo Super Bowl, and it's not because they think it's the one we like more.)

I have my MBA but I'm an idiot and used it for HR. With real experience in whatever field you're working in it can jump you a few rings on the ladder. That said it's not exactly an auto-win like you hope, but it's certainly valuable.

I've never seen the purpose for an MPA unless you have a specific job that wants it. An MBA will still teach you a lot of the public sector and non-profit sector (at least mine did) and all the principles are still applicable to public sector work anyway. An MBA is a square, and an MPA is a rectangle.

One use for a diamond is rebuilding a certain weapon you can get (not the Master Sword). You get it from the Zoras, so my guess is you could use the other colored gems for similar things with the other races. I don't know though since I've only completed the Zora's portion
