Estelle is so good I fear for the future of this series because I don't know if it's even possible to repeat a character that good in the same series (though hey, we are off to a good start with Kevin). The next few arcs will happen at darker and more morally ambiguous places, including a separatist region and the setting's evil empire, so I imagine they will get edgier protagonists. Can this series work that tone out, too? We will see.

I loved your writeup on Kloe...yeah FC really nails the small stakes to big stakes journey like no other RPG. I still enjoyed SC more but I agree that that aspect of it really didn't exist as much in SC and it does make FC stand out

Linear is an overused term, I don't mind linear as long as it's engaging. When it's linear and boring then you have a problem

That's the best thing about trails, instead of being preachy over the downfall in the trust in modern day institutions, they just let us revisit a magic place where you can feel secure in it again. Some good wholesomeness is what this world needs more of

I did kind of the opposite where I played 1, took a break for almost a year and then played 2 and 3 back to back. I think that playing 3 closer to crossbell is probably the better way to do it though

The game wasn't too difficult overall playing on Normal, but I definitely remember this fight with Renne being annoying. Mainly because it's just a "do you have the right status gear equipped" check, but still.

I ended up rewatching some of these scenes mainly because I was confusing it with a scene from the endgame boss fights, but I forgot how much of a champion Estelle is by endgame SC/3rd. Such a great character.

Well there is also (boss fight from a later game in the series) Campanella's S-Craft, but you know what you're still probably right.

Are you talking about the salt pale? Cuz they go into it a bit in Sky 3. But if it's something else no idea, I have only played up to CS2 and have been taking an extended break

But what I've been dancing around here is that stingers is thinking of later in the game when the game will not force party members on you (barring Estelle and Joshua) for any of the fights.

theres basically a semi-required character for every boss rush fight here...if you dont bring the person that relates to the ouroboros member in the plot you miss out on cool dialogue

yeah that scene played to estelles characterization to a T. It was pretty perfect

Yeah the way they handled sephiroth is definitely less than ideal. Doesn't stop me from enjoying the game but I do wish they drew it out more. I see where they are coming from in terms of wanting part 1 to feel "complete" but like...nobody is asking for that.

I agree that 15 is worse than 13 which is worse than 12. Which should leave me disinterested in 16 but 7R went a long way to restore my faith in the franchise so I'm holding out some hope
