https://kfor.com/news/alabama-man-sues-kraft-heinz-claims-lemonade-mix-makes-6-not-8-quarts/

A Bessemer, Alabama, man has filed a class-action lawsuit against Kraft Heinz Foods accusing the company of false labeling and deceptive trade practices in relation to the companys Country Time lemonade mixes.

In a suit filed Thursday in federal court, DeMarcus Rodgers claims that while Kraft Heinz says its 19-ounce canisters of powder lemonade mix make eight quarts of lemonade, the amount of powder provided makes only six quarts when following measuring directions listed on the products packaging.

Kraft Heinz statements prominently displayed on the label are untrue, misleading, and likely to deceive reasonable consumers such as Plaintiff, because the canisters do not contain enough powder drink mix to make eight quarts of lemonade or pink lemonade using the mix line in the cap, the lawsuit claims.

The 27-page initial filing claims that Kraft Heinz conduct violated the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the Alabama Deceptive Trade Practices Act, as well as breaching the companys own express and implicit warranties.

The suit asks for three times actual damages to Rodgers and others who may have been impacted by the companys alleged deception, as well as other damages in amounts to be determined by a jury and/or the Court. Rodgers is also asking that the court order Kraft Heinz to stop its unlawful practices and give up any ill-gotten profits from sales of the lemonade mixes at issue in the case.

Multiple attempts to reach DeMarcus Rodgers and Kraft Heinz foods Thursday were unsuccessful.

https://www.ksn.com/news/dont-miss-this/woman-falls-headfirst-into-outdoor-toilet-while-trying-to-retrieve-phone/

It wasnt the usual mountain rescue for first responders in Washingtons Olympic National Forest.
Instead of rescuing a hiker that was stranded at the top of a mountain, they came to the aid of a woman who was stuck inside an outdoor toilet.

The woman was using the facilities at the Mt. Walker vista point on Tuesday when she dropped her cell phone into the underground container below a vault toilet, according to a public Facebook post by the Brinnon Fire Department.

A vault toilet, typically found at campgrounds and near hiking trails, is waterless and non-flushing.
The woman first tried to get the phone out herself by taking the toilet seat and housing apart and using her dogs leash to fish the phone out.

Crews said she was using the dogs leash to support herself when she fell headfirst into the toilet.
After attempting for 15-20 minutes to get herself out of the container, the woman was able to get her hands on her phone and call 911.

The Brinnon and Quilcene fire departments responded and made a makeshift cribbing platform tall enough for the woman to stand on and pulled her to safety.

According to the Brinnon Fire Department, the woman was washed down and given a Tyvek suit personal protective equipment in the style of a coverall to wear. She did not wish to be taken to the hospital.

Crews urged her to seek medical attention after her exposure to human waste, but she only wanted to leave and continue on her way to California, they said.

They said the woman was lucky not to have become ill due to the toxic gases or hurt from the fall.

https://fox8.com/news/man-woman-electrocuted-after-trying-tiktok-trend/

Two people from central Wisconsin were found dead and believed to have been electrocuted while doing an art form that has gained popularity on TikTok.

According to the Marathon County Sheriffs Office, two people were found dead on April 6 after an investigation of a structure fire. The victims were 44-year-old Tanya Rodriguez and 52-year-old James Carolfi, both of whom are from the Town of Day.

An investigation revealed that both of the victims were dead before the fire and foul play was ruled out. The deaths were reportedly deemed accidental and officials believe the deaths were caused by electrocution from fractal wood burning.

The investigation also showed that the fire started in the garage before spreading to the home. Officials say that the fractal wood burning equipment that caused the electrocutions likely started the fire.

Officials described fractal wood burning as an art form that has risen to fame on social media sites like TikTok. The fractal burning process normally uses a high-voltage transformer to flow current across wood items that have been soaked with a chemical solution.

The Marathon County Sheriffs Office is warning of the dangers of fractal wood burning and says it should only be done by trained professionals.

The Town of Day is just over two hours west of Green Bay.

No additional information was provided.

The American Association of Woodturners warns on its website that fractal burning has killed and could kill you. In mid-2017 the AAW Safety Committee issued a ban against the technique.

The American Association of Woodturners has banned the use of this process at all of its events and has banned articles about use of a fractal burner in all of its publications.
The reported cases of fractal burning deaths range from hobbyist woodworkers through experienced woodworkers to an electrician with many years experience working with electricity. It only takes one small mistake and you are dead; not injured, dead. Some of those who died were experienced at using the process and some were not. What is common to all of them: fractal burning killed them.

When people started asking "Ok then, what do we do?" she started emailing directives - asking for acknowledgement each time - which resulted in an extra 20-30 emails a day.

Within 10 days everyone's inbox was full and had to be increased and the IT guy said "WTF is going on over there?" Upper management got involved because it was a total shitshow. HQ had sent a time sensitive, and important document to the office email but it was full and the email bounced back.

They promoted her.

https://nypost.com/2022/04/20/boy-born-with-two-penises-has-the-larger-one-chopped-off-by-doctors/

A boy who was born with two penises had to have one removed but doctors chose to take the larger one.

The youngster, from Brazil, is one in a million baby boys to be born with a duplicated penis.
Doctors in So Paulo said to date only 100 men with the condition, called diphallia, have been reported in medical literature.

They describe their own case report in the Journal of Pediatric Urology of a boy who had two penises that lay side by side.

He had complete diphallia, as opposed to having only an accessory penis or stump.

The unnamed patient was two years old by the time he had surgery for reasons that were not explained.

Observing that the left penis was larger, the team of doctors had planned to save this one and get rid of the smaller, right member.

Both penises, although differing in size, were visibly similar and working.

The mom said that both penises had the ability to become erect.

But examinations showed each penis had only one of two corpora cavernosa spongy columns of tissues that fill with blood and cause the penis to harden.

Medics discovered that the boy could only urinate from the smaller penis, confirmed by the mother.

The urethra of the larger one was too narrow for urine to pass through, MailOnline reported.

Therefore, a decision was made on functionality and not on size meaning the larger penis had to go.

Surgeons removed the left penis entirely and filmed the process in a video published in the online journal.

Before and after shots show how neatly the Brazilian team were able to slice the left penis off and stitch the remaining skin together.

It is not clear how well the boy will be able to achieve erections in the future, given he only has one erection chamber in his remaining penis.

It comes after doctors in Uzbekistan described the case of a seven-year-old boy with two fully functional penises.

Both penises had urethras and erectile tissue.

But the case report, published in Urology Case Reports, did not explicitly say whether both penises would be able to become erect.

Its also not clear why it took the patients parents seven years to get the condition treated, with medics eventually removing one of the shafts.

According to MedicalNewsToday, there is nothing to say that men with duplicate penises cant have a normal sex life and children.

However, there tends to be a higher risk of dysfunction in the kidney and colorectal systems, and therefore infection and possibly death.

Therefore, it is deemed appropriate to remove one of the penises and correct any abnormalities on the insides, too.

https://www.the-scientist.com/magazine-issue/opinion-another-species-of-hominin-may-still-be-alive-69869

In 2004, the scientific world was shaken by the discovery of fossils from a tiny species of hominin on the Indonesian island of Flores. Labeled Homo floresiensis and dating to the late Pleistocene, the species was apparently a contemporary of early modern humans in this part of Southeast Asia. Yet in certain respects the diminutive hominin resembled australopithecines and even chimpanzees. Twenty years previously, when I began ethnographic fieldwork on Flores, I heard tales of humanlike creatures, some still reputedly alive although very rarely seen. In the words of the H. floresiensis discovery teams leader, the late Mike Morwood, last at the University of Wollongong in Australia, descriptions of these hominoids fitted floresiensis to a T. Not least because the newly described fossil species was assumed to be extinct, I began looking for ways this remarkable resemblance might be explained. The result is a book, Between Ape and Human, available in May 2022.

Coming from a professional anthropologist and ethnobiologist, my conclusions will probably surprise many. They might even be more startling than the discovery of H. floresiensisonce described by paleoanthropologist Peter Brown of the University of New England in New South Wales as tantamount to the discovery of a space alien. Unlike other books concerned with hominin evolution, the focus of my book is not on fossils but on a local human population called the Lio and what these people say about an animal (as they describe it) that is remarkably like a human but is not humansomething I can only call an ape-man. My aim in writing the book was to find the best explanationthat is, the most rational and empirically best supportedof Lio accounts of the creatures. These include reports of sightings by more than 30 eyewitnesses, all of whom I spoke with directly. And I conclude that the best way to explain what they told me is that a non-sapiens hominin has survived on Flores to the present or very recent times.

Between Ape and Human also considers general questions, including how natural scientists construct knowledge about living things. One issue is the relative value of various sources of information about creatures, including animals undocumented or yet to be documented in the scientific literature, and especially information provided by traditionally non-literate and technologically simple communities such as the Lioa people who, 40 or 50 years ago, anthropologists would have called primitive. To be sure, the Lio dont have anything akin to modern evolutionary theory, with speciation driven by mutation and natural selection. But if evolutionism is fundamentally concerned with how different species arose and how differences are maintained, then Lio people and other Flores islanders have for a long time been asking the same questions.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/5/3/4/AAcJoVAADKCO.jpg

Lio folk zoology and cosmology also include stories of natural beings, specifically humans, transforming permanently into animals of other kinds. And they do this, in part, by moving into new environments and adopting new ways of life, thus suggesting a qualified Lamarckism. As my fieldwork revealed, such posited changes reflect local observations of similarities and differences between a supposed ancestral species and its differentiated descendants. Like the majority of named categories in Lio animal classification, these derivatives coincide with the species or genera of modern systematics.

At the same time, Lio distinguish humans from nonhuman animals in much the same way as do modern Westerners, that is, not just on morphological grounds but by attributing complex expressions of culture, language, and technology exclusively to humans.

Like other folk zoologists, the Lio put humans first, most notably as the origin of nonhuman animals, a sort of Darwinism in reverse. In contrast, evolutionary theory puts humans (or hominins) last, just as does the biblical story of Genesis. Yet in all instances, the position confers on Homo sapiens a unique status, thereby separating us from the rest of the animal kingdom.

For the Lio, the ape-mans appearance as something incompletely human makes the creature anomalous and hence problematic and disturbing. For academic scientists, H. floresiensis is similarly problematic, but not so much for its resemblance to H. sapiens; rather, its because the species appears very late in the geological record, surviving to a time well after the appearance of modern humans. Whether H. floresiensis would have been any harder (or easier) to accept had it been interpreted as a bipedal ape rather than a species of human is difficult to say. Nevertheless, its interesting that Morwood, taking an implicitly unilinear view of hominin evolution and arguing for the species inclusion in Homo, spoke of the evidence that the diminutive hominin walked the Earth relatively recently as one good reason to classify H. floresiensis in our genus. For this can only mean that, in the view of this author, what survives until recent times has to somehow belong with us.

As for ape-men, the Lio identify them as animals. In fact, they are one of several animals that Lio people claim descended from humans. But this classification has nothing to do with geological dating or any paleoanthropological evidence. Instead, Lio people, who distinguish natural from supernatural (or spiritual) beings in essentially the same way religious Westerners do, interpret ape-men as non-human animals with reference to observable features that clearly separate them from invisible spirits; from other, more familiar animals; and, of course, from people. Some features of the ape-men might suggest a scientifically undiscovered species or population of modern apes. But Lio statements mostly count against this hypothesis, as does all we know about the biogeography of eastern Indonesia.

Our initial instinct, I suspect, is to regard the extant ape-men of Flores as completely imaginary. But, taking seriously what Lio people say, Ive found no good reason to think so. What they say about the creatures, supplemented by other sorts of evidence, is fully consistent with a surviving hominin species, or one that only went extinct within the last 100 years. Paleontologists and other life scientists would do well to incorporate such Indigenous knowledge into continuing investigations of hominin evolution in Indonesia and elsewhere. For reasons I discuss in the book, no field zoologist is yet looking for living specimens of H. floresiensis or related hominin species. But this does not mean that they cannot be found.
