Ralph I think is going to end up as Low Fodder. He doesn't have a large presence in games despite canonically being a game character. And Wreck-It Ralph 2 was received badly enough to wreck heh his reputation on Gfaqs.

I will put Honest Abe at Fodder Line. He's about as culturally relevant as a long dead president can get - recent biopics and sillier movies like Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter keep him in popular culture. Abe is instantly recognizable and has a very positive reputation, even outside of the US.

Mew will give Low Midcarder, but I'm not entirely convinced. The fact that it wasn't a legitimately obtainable Pokemon for a long time damages it a bit for me - Mew seems better-known for the "under the truck" meme than for being an actual Pokemon people used. That said Mew is incredibly notable for being a secret monster, and people seem to like its role in Pokemon The First Movie. I don't know if its design will go over well on the site, but I guess Kirby makes the cute and pink thing work.

Not getting into the 90's animated series kneecaps her pretty hard and no prominence in the first couple X-Men movies is also a problem. She's just not even in the biggest X-men stuff for this site's demographic. Was in some later X-Men movies and X-Men Evolution but even so this feels really generous. I do recognize the name offhand though (wouldn't have a prayer of telling you what Gambit, Storm, or Beast's real names are), so she's probably got something going for her.

Reasonably prominent secondary character in the game but not sure he stands out much to people that aren't still mega fans so many years later.

Agree with all rankings. Sadly Kitty missing the 90s series and the early 00s movies really hurts, and her powers don't lend themselves well to games.

Mikey is similar to Ralph - everyone thought he was cool when they were kids, but nowadays some of Gfaqs will probably dislike him for how often he falls into the "team idiot" stereotype.

Villager I think will be High Fodder. Animal Crossing has done ok in polls, but seems to be pretty low on the Nintendo totem pole. Isabelle looked like mid fodder at best in CBX - one tier higher seems appropriate for Villager since he is more of a definitive rep for the series than Isabelle, who appeared later on. Plus they have been in Smash longer.

Chaos - Low Fodder. I don't see the site really caring that much for a Sonic villain who is more of a plot device than an actual character. I don't think Gfaqs likes Sonic Adventure much either.

The Red Ranger will be High Fodder. The Ranger poll put him in a strong second, yet he was still significantly behind Tommy. He is the cool leader of the group with a sword and a T-Rex zord, so I'm sure plenty of voters though he was RADICAL back in the day and will vote for him based on nostalgia. It's Morphing Time!

Catwoman I put at High Fodder last time and I will put her there again. I think her various incarnations are similar enough that the specific pic they use for her shouldn't detract for her votes. That said I'm sure they will use her appearance from the Arkham series. Her Batman TAS and Batman Returns portrayals were popular, and I think the basketball scene from the regrettable Catwoman movie will help her in an ironic, meme-ish fashion.

Alm I will put at Low Fodder - FE Echoes did ok on the 2017 portable poll but did not make the GOTY poll. I don't think that's enough to put the game's male protag above low fodder.

Tali I will put at Mid Fodder. She's one of the most popular waifus from the game, but I think her design won't win her many points. Plus some fans might anti-vote her due to not being -their- ME waifu, or the controversial reveal of her face.

Navi should at least be High Fodder. She's an iconic "helper" character and honestly, she isn't as annoying as some make it seem. The "Hey! Listen!" memes may be more of a benefit than a hindrance as well.

Naruto I say is Mid Fodder this time around. He isn't especially well-liked as a character, but the Naruto franchise is big enough that I think most Gfaqs have either watched it and/or played some of the many Naruto fighting games. Sharing the name of the series will be enough to put him above low fodder.

Kimberly will be Mid Fodder. I was thinking that a lot of Gfaqs would have had a crush on her, having watched MMPR in the 90s. That might not be the case judging by the classic Power Ranger poll from last year. The Pink Ranger finished ahead of only Black and Yellow. But the name Kimberly Hart wasn't used in the poll, which makes me think the negative reaction was more to the visual design of the Pink Ranger than her specifically. I still think she is popular, but I guess not too many Gfaqs users had a crush on her as kids.

Raichu I will say is a Low Midcarder. It has always kind of been the "cool Pikachu", and has the design to live up to that moniker. Raichu is the first Pokemon that comes to mind concerning Thunderstone evolutions, and I think being the evo of Pikachu is a strong enough association to push it over the fodder line.

Mid Fodder for the Old Meme. . . I mean Old Man. After all these years, it is still dangerous to go alone.

Agree with High Fodder for Shy Guy. He doesn't have a huge presence as a generic enemy, but has way more personality than Goomba or Koopa Troopa in spinoff games. I think his funny behavior and recognizable appearance makes him enough of a favorite in those games to be high fodder.

Groose is Low Fodder - he lost to Lu Bu in 2013 when Skyward Sword was still a pretty recent game. At best he was mid fodder at that point, and I'm sure his strength has tanked along with the reputation of SS.

The Rock I think gets to Mid Fodder. He is a memorable wrestler, but most of his strength will be due to his acting roles. He's been one of the most visible action movie actors in the business for many years, and has even been in several video game-based movies. And people can smell, what THE ROCK is cooking!

Garnet I will say is High Fodder. She is the focus of the plot of FFIX for much of the game, but it seems like she gets overlooked quite a bit compared to Zidane or Vivi. I almost never hear anyone talk about her, so I think the overall response to her as a character is lukewarm. But enough FFIX fans will vote for her that I believe she'll beat most fodder. Also, her butt

Nier is definitely Low Fodder, and would be in consideration for law fodder if not for sharing the name of his series.

Luffy I will give Mid Fodder. He is the MC of an incredibly popular anime and is recognizable enough to not be low fodder. But I don't think he's anywhere close to being a well-liked character within the fanbase. I could see him getting some joke votes based off of 4Kids anime dub memes though.

Koopa I will put at High Fodder this time around. He's about as iconic as the Goomba, but has a much longer history of being playable in spinoffs - dating back to the original Mario Kart. I think that gives Koopa enough of a potential fanbase to tip him up to high fodder.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if there is a compelling reason for both characters to be linked (either co-starring in a game ala Banjo & Kazooie, or always appearing together like Callie & Marie from Splatoon).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

If you feel that a character has been over or under-ranked, or if a new development has come up that would affect their contest strength, you may nominate them for a re-ranking. You may nominate one character per day for this, and 3 votes are needed to get them on the slate. One character with 3 votes will come up for re-ranking today.
