Yeah and UltraDavid actually mentioned a player who is only here BECAUSE he started playing HDR. If anything a new Darkstalkers game would influence more people to play the old games.

there was so much backlash against SF4 when it first came out. it still killed 3s and CvS2 which had active scenes for a decade. at least 3s is still big in Japan. no one play CvS2 anywhere anymore.

Yeah and it revived a dead genre. Active scenes are great but not if there aren't any new players cycling into them.

I've only played a little bit of Darkstalkers ( I mained Jedah when I was terrible at fighting games) and I would love a new game. Most of the fun for fighting games for me comes from learning about all of the new characters and finding one that fits for me. And then getting better with that character takes the rest of the fun. You might as well give the new game the benefit of the doubt because it's not like the old games stop existing just because a new game comes out.

like after their track record the last 4 years, you really want to make a sequel to your favorite game? odds are good that if you're a huge fan of the old ones you're not a huge fan of the new ones. especially since new entries in the series tend to kill the old ones even if they're obviously worse. people want a new SF3 game, or a new Darkstalkers, or a CvS3. or rebalances of something. put me in the "lol no thanks" category for all of that.

it's basically just Evo where everyone plays Chun. in Japan there's a huge amount of character variety in tournaments and the Danisen league. which is a combo of a few factors - no one good at the game likes playing on console (so most good 3s players never bothered with Evo), and of course Americans are just kind of bad at 3s. but yeah this notion of "chun chun chun yun chun ken chun chun" top 8 is not how the game is actually played at high levels. just at Evo.

but yes theres no 3s this year again. it's very important that we all watch SFxT I guess
