To do the wrong warp, he last to leave the room via the door while the warp is activated. But right when he kills Gohma, the door is sealed. If he saved and restarted after beating Gohma, then the last cutscene that was played will be at the intro. But the wrong warp only brings him to Ganon's Tower when the last cutscene played was the Deku Tree opening. Therefore, the only way to get out of the room and back, so the door is openable and the glitch works properly, is to die. And there's no way to die after Gohma is dead, so it has to be simultaneous.
