I can believe people wanted to know about the origins of the Reapers, but it's not always a good idea to answer everything. Leaving them a mystery, with small doses of how they may have originated is better than 'here's what we are and what we do credits.'
From what I can gather, the issue is that people aren't upset that the Reapers are explained, but rather the explanation for the Reapers.
If they were given a different origin, I guess people wouldn't be too upset. Like some ancient civilization billions of years ago decided to become Reapers, and they believe that is the ultimate ascended form so everyone else should be reaped.
