Well, you can have it be better in the sense of "that's a slightly less stupid thing to say," sure. But part of the purpose of a dub is to communicate the message of the original language. You don't necessarily have to do a transliteration to accomplish that purpose. You can even change some stuff around a bit, like how Maya loves burgers instead of ramen in the English translation of Phoenix Wright, because you're adapting it for another culture while still retaining the original point, but it'd be stupid if you had Maya go from saying she loves ramen in the Japanese to saying she hates it in English because that's not the original point.

But whatever.



I don't feel it's the job of the dub to communicate the original message. I think it's the job of the dub to make the message more accessible/better to its new audience. You shouldn't keep something the same if it's going to not make sense or offend the new audience.

And I'm pretty sure Mew saying "YOU SUCK YOU SHOULD F***ING DIE YOU FAKER" wouldn't be good.
