It sounds like you are out to not like this game.
Or Squall at least.
Squall does really nothing douche-y yet.
The only person I ever thought he was kind of an ass to was Quistis and maybe Rinoa, but she had it coming.
And you can change the controls guy.
I do it all the time with FFVII and VIII.
