I should say that my brother had the PAL version, perhaps they changed some dialog for NA release? I just thought it was worth mentioning because the story and setting seemed really fantastic while a few pieces of dialogue were basically saying "there's something here".
Nope, I live in the UK and played the PAL release.

It's pretty damn long. ~70 hours at a minimum, well over double that if you want to do all the sidequests and stuff.
Also, WTF at people saying it's ugly. Unrefined perhaps, there are definitely resolution issues, but it's still visually stunning. Some of the best looking things I've seen in a game, largely due to the art direction and draw distance.
