It might. However, the door to the freezer was already closed when the explosive was set off. Think about it. The second explosive, triggered when Shados opened the freezer door, was strong enough to inflict severe damage to the surrounding area. No such damage was found at the scene.

This actually begs an interesting question, then - how come one of the explosives wrecked everything and the other one didn't? Could it be possible that Maria and Reg died off-scene?

No, it's because the freezer door was closed when one of them went off, is what I'm saying <_<. The freezer proved too tough so damage was confined to its inside.
