We would have known it as of Summerslam anyways under this plan. If you're gonna use "Will Punk show up?" as a reason the PPV would sell, then you're pretty much assuring he will!
One reason they stopped doing King of the Ring as a PPV was that they believe people don't like paying for the unknown. They will watch the regular TV shows and see things develop and follow along, but when it comes time to lay the money down, they want to know what matches they're going to see.
Summerslam shouldn't be used for storyline development, it should be used for storyline conclusion. You want to use Raw to make people buy the PPV, not use the PPV to make people watch Raw.
in this scenario, you arent JUST selling punk, but the finals of a world title tournament which should have been a much bigger deal than it was ( seriously aside from the finals only truthrey went more than 5 minute, just one night after a title bout went much much longer, kayfabe its tough to dal with), AND if not that youre selling childrens icon rey vs childrens icon john cena, which probably would have sold well.
the punk under current would have been for us.
