It's not really snaking that was the problem, it was the fact it was so effective. If you didn't snake, you were screwed. Even if you couldn't snake perfectly, you'd get a huge advantage over others in the right kart.
I never snaked and was still able to defeat 75% of my opponents and I'm not exactly that great at the game.
