I played a ton more today. I figured out how to describe this game.
it's Dragon Quest 8 with a more compelling narrative and battle system. even DQ8's biggest strength, its hugely detailed world, is trumped by Xenoblade.
I really like this game. it's gotta be the most involved JRPG ever made.
