Superboy, written by Scott Lobdell with art by RB Silva

http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/new-52-superboy/

Description: Superboy, Conner Kent, has always been a bit of an odd case in the DCU. He's a tank born clone created using the genes of Lex Luthor and Superman, originally appearing as a possible replacement for Superman after his supposed "death" 15 years ago. Since then he's had a very lengthy and mildly successful ongoing, a primary character slot on the old Young Justice team and the following Teen Titans ongoing, and has even suffered a death in Infinite Crisis followed by a very convoluted rebirth. It seems as if he's going to receive and entirely new origin story for this relaunch, of which only the smallest details are known so far. But he's still going to have his place on the Titans, and is receiving a brand new ongoing.

Creative Team: Scott Lobdell is a veteran Marvel writer who really hasn't done a ton of work on non-team books. But from the looks of things, Superboy is going to have a fairly extensive supporting cast of other heroes as well, such as Miss Martian and Ravager, so honestly this may as well be a team book anyways. So there's a good amount of hope for his work here yet. Another note to make is that Lobdell has stated that 3 issues in he hasn't included a single narrative passage yet, something former readers of his work would note he tends to include an excess of.

RB Silva has had only one art job to date, drawing the back-up (short story) feature in 3 issues of Action Comics. And it looked damn good. He has a similar look to Sami Basri, a bit more flat and cartoony, but not to any detriment of its quality.

Ease of Access: Superboy looks like it's going to be changing things around a lot from his past, and it seems like his origin is going to be retold and altered anyways.

Recommendation: From a personal perspective I take a little issue with this. In recent years, Superboy has returned to Smallville and has been going in a more rural direction, being his own man and dealing with much smaller and more local problems. The last 2 books he's been involved when have been some of the best comics DC has put out in years. But it looks like all that's being scrapped and Conner is going back to throwing punches and jokes. It's a fairly big disappointment for a fan of the characters recent arc. Does that mean that this new series is going to be bad? No. In fact, I'd strongly recommend it if you plan on reading Teen Titans, since they'll probably tie-in pretty closely. As a standalone, though, there are more potentially better options, but I wouldn't throw it under the bus.
