15. A Sentimental Man (The Wizard)

Aside from Glinda's reprise, this is the shortest song on the soundtrack at a little over a minute in length, much of which is simply orchestral music. Honestly, the Wizard's songs aren't THAT great, because he's just NOT as good of a singer as Glinda or Elphaba, yet he's the only major character that really gets the chance to shine on his own (well, kinda). His two songs are both kinda quirky, and you can tell the kind of person he is by his voice. But the biggest problem with this song is that it comes between two of the bigger show-stopping numbers of the first act, and that makes it come across as filler. Like, they had One Short Day, but there was too long of a time between that and Defying Gravity, so they had to fill the void with music rather than just making the scene purely acting. And the other issue I have with this song is that, because it's so short and because it's so seemingly filler, it really gets overshadowed by the Wizard's other song, "Wonderful", which serves the exact same purpose, pretty much.
