12. Dancing Through Life (Fiyero, Glinda, Boq, Nessarose, Elphaba & Students)

The longest song in the show, it's somewhat hard to rank it because I do like it for what it is...but at the same time, it suffers from several of the issues that songs ranked lower than it also suffer from. First off, the length, like the other truly long songs in the show, is kinda padded by clumping a bunch of scenes together. And that means for seven minutes of showtime, you have this scene going non-stop as a song, rather than just straight-up acting, when really, quite a bit of it could be just plain acted out (Glinda turning down Boq and tricking him into going to the party with Nessa, for example, or Nessa talking about how she lovesBoq, or Glinda giving Elphaba the witch hat). I get that they were going for a theme of "oh, you're perfect for each other" with Boq/Nessa, Glinda/Fiyero, and Elphaba/hat, but it's just a bit too long. The actual singing parts when headed by Fiyero are quite good though, although they kinda turn out weird, given how much time they spend dedicating this scene of Fiyero being a frat boy type of character that loves Glinda, only to have that get reversed by the second act (hell, two songs later). But it's solid, if not great.
