Currently, VF4: Evo is probably considered the best current 3D fighter. But no one really cares a lot about VF.
Also, it's pretty commonly held that Soul Calibur 1 and 2 are legendary fighters, but the series has taken a dive.
Tekken has been up and down, and basically maintains popularity through its name.
