So long as there's a strong sense of atmosphere I don't really care either.

That said I have never been able to stand an MMO for longer than a week. Ever. So I'm just thankful my girlfriend will undoubtedly buy it should our laptop support it (and if not then eventually when we get a gaming rig) and I can just try to see if that has changed about me. Since, you know, it probably won't.

Why? There's probably a reason !

It's difficult to put into words and admittedly more than a little silly when I try to explain it. Quite frankly, I... get overwhelmed by the feeling of carrot-waggling (or whatever they call it) -- the system of 'gotta level up so I can get new skills so I can level up so I can get new loot so I can level up so I can get new skills so I can level up so I can get new loot so I can...' somehow I just can't stand the thought of it. It's almost repulsive to me because I'd much rather explore a story.

And then we arrive at the most common counterpoint -- some MMOs have good stories. And that's absolutely true, I know it is. I've read up on FFXI's, for example. Surprisingly OK, that one. And this is BioWare so I shouldn't worry. And it's so story-focused so that's great. But then there's the fact that you wind up playing with hordes of other people, which isn't something I have anything against when I'm playing games with people in-person. But when it's online I just... very quickly stop caring. I dunno why.

And then there's the "find the right group" counterpoint. Again, a very solid one. My ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend are two terrific MMO players who like lore as much as me. I... still can't do it. Because I'm quite serious when I say that I spend so much time exploring and taking it easy in every game I play that I'll beat FFVII in like 120 hours. I just roam around, immerse myself, in basically every game I can do so with. So you can imagine that eventually my potential teammates in an MMO will get tired of me reading every last ounce of flavor text a few times while hanging out by some tree on Kashyyk. Because that's how I roll and it bothers the hell outta everyone else.

So if I did get this game, you'd see me level from 1 to 50 over the course of no less than a year for sure. I'd be chilling out, relaxing on Tatooine. Doing just about nothing. That's how I roll. I love atmosphere so much. But after a certain point everyone around me always goes "oh my god, hurry up, we have a boss to fight for cool loot" and leave me behind and I get bored with the game immediately after that.

>_> You asked.
