You have to directly compete with your own product that is sold for less. Uh, yeah, that costs you some money.
Would the game even have sold 2 million in the first place if people didn't know they could trade it in?
If I were him that's what I'd be more concerned about: why 50% of the people who did buy my game decided they didn't want it anymore.
