Basically, they're giant rats that are trained to sniff out Landmines. They're big enough to be easily seen, while light enough to not trigger the land mine. When they find a land mine, they big a scratching motion.
Furthermore, they can be used to detect people with TB, since I guess people with the virus give off a special odor.
Plus they're cute.
