the market has kind of changed. the Game Boy was a casual device with very simple games, for the most part. the DS thrived off of things like Brain Age and Nintendogs.

that market has moved over to dumb iphone games. because of that, portables are now for more serious gamers. why buy a $40 game when you can have a $4 that satisfies that kind of person? I think that's where the iphone hurts. portables will be fine -- at least for now -- but they're not going to have crazy sales anymore. their market has shrunk a bit.


This is what I'm trying to say.

The casual market that just bought the DS because of its neat little games like Nintendogs has no use for a $150~ handheld plus $40 for a game when they can just buy a similar game on their phone for a dollar. The problem is that they're still trying to use gimmicks to get the attention of the casual crowd, but that won't work because all they see is $200 vs. $1.
