His "trying" consisted of bringing it up one time, then cowardly backing down when the AARP threatened him. Then he created an entirely new unfunded entitlement in Prescription Drugs D in a lame attempt to buy the votes of seniors.
SS reform died when the Senate refused to open debate. Nothing he could do.
And the prescription drugs plan happened after he was re-elected...
