As for the "whining", people are just expressing their disapproval of this decision that doesn't make much sense to them. The "it's just a contest" logic falls flat on its face when you realize that if no one took the contest seriously at all, there wouldn't be nominations in the first place. Making a topic saying "Nominate [blank]" is essentially taking the contest seriously. There is nothing wrong with taking the contest seriously. There is nothing wrong with taking something you enjoy seriously.
No one has yet to take things too seriously.
