Bully the enemy lane, use dat stun, support, and maybe carry.

This...

I pretty much always start with a Meki, Health Pot, and Mana Pot. Take a point in Q, use it twice before leaving the home point, and head to Bottom Lane. I like taking Teleport and Exhaust as my two spells, Teleport gets me where I need to be for Team Fights faster, Exhaust is mostly for defense for ganks or if I am being focused in Team Fights.

I like to take Bottom Lane, but will generally go with whichever lane partner looks to benefit the most from Sona's presence. This week I have been laning with Singed a lot, but usually anyone tanky is good. Depending on my partner, I will either focus on Healing and letting him have most the Creeps or I will work in tandem with him and start working towards being a Carry. In a Support role, I focus on maxing my Heal (W) first. In a Carry Role, I max my Attack (Q) first. In either case, I always prioritize letting my buddy initiate and I will work in tandem with him.

As a full Support, I try to maximize my CDR with multipurpose items that are also geared on Support, like Shurelya's Reverie and Randuin's Omen. I pick up Boots of Lucidity as well, and Aegis of Legion. I usually build Archangel's staff for AP as well since I use the original Meki Pendant to get a Tear of the Goddess early.

As a Carry, I still get a Tear of the Goddess and Boots of Lucidity, but I focus on more AP and getting a Lichbane.

Biggest thing to keep an eye on is your Chord. Always have a 2 on your Chord meter before you instigate or suspect a potential offensive from the opponents. If you are support built, all 3 of your Power Chord usages are useful, and you need to be keen on when is the best time to use them. Usually your Q Power Chord will be the best. As a Carry though, you pretty much will ONLY be using Q Power Chords. With Sheen/Lichbane and a Q Power Chord, you can take upwards to 50% or more of an enemy's health away from Q followed by the Power Chord attack (it will get double damage from the Power Chord, and it will get boosted damage from your AP for the Lichbane).

The more advanced players you play with, the more likely you will do just Full Support. Carry Sona isn't a good idea in serious games I think. Sona is my main champ (side by side with Sivir).
