The French are the authority on French names, yes. Just because you're speaking a different language than the name originated from doesn't mean you change the pronunciation of the name.

Yes, it does actually. It's the same reason why Aeris gets prononuced as eye-riss, and not air-iss or worse, air-ee-soo.

You don't call someone named Jose "jyoe-say" or "jyohz" do you?
