9. Tritonal & Sibicky – Suzu
Label: Garuda
Genre: Trance

MELODIES!!! Easily my favourite part of trance music, and the Gareth Emery's Garuda label seems to specialize in them. This track came out quite early in the year and I really haven't stopped playing it since. Tritonal is absolutely fantastic when it comes to trance basslines, although you'll notice that many of them are extremely similar if you hear one of their live sets. Either way, their hard bass mixes quite well with the lighter melodies used in the lead of this song. It's without a doubt my favourite lead of the year. The whole tune is happy and uplifting without being over-indulgent or cheesy. The lead itself is more complex than most that you would hear in this type of music, and I think that quality comes from Sibicky, who I just learned is the classical composer who taught Chad (one half of Tritonal) how to produce music. Pretty interesting collaboration there.

This year I haven't been including my “favourite part” as a section of the review, but I think it needs mention for this song. The entire section from about the 3:10 mark until about 5:10 is just sublime. This track really turns up the energy during the set, it's a melodic masterpiece.
