Well if they really wanted to they could, but the amount of murder by firearm would probably go down by a lot, now if the amount of murder would go down is a different thing.
Murder aside, guns protect the rest of our rights. What happens if we lose all of gun rights? What's to stop us from losing other rights? The constitution is the ultimate law of the land and needs to be treated as such.
