In the last 3 years or so though, $100 for new good rares has become the standard.
This isn't true at all. The only card that's ever hit that price while still being in Standard is Jace. Even other cards that come out at high prices never stay up there, and generally settle back down in the $30 or so area (the new Liliana for instance). I mean, there's probably less than 50 cards in all of Magic that have a $100 or more price tag.
Not that $30 for a card isn't a lot, because it is, but it's a far cry from a "$100 standard for new rares".
