Going to go ahead and say this before anyone else does.
We only know that based on what we've seen that matter cannot be created. There in lies the truth. Up to this point, it would be blissfully ignorant to believe we're close to the exact truth. What we have now is just our best effort.
Sure you can create matter. You smash particles together, and in some cases more mass comes out of the scattering event than went into it. That's what they do at CERN and all of the other particle accelerators.
How energy got to be here in the first place, however, is definitely a mystery.
Also, a black hole is just an object dense enough so that it's radius is less than 2GM/c^2.
