I was roughly 6-8 years old when I first played RBY and FF7. I don't have nostalgia goggles because honestly I think Black/White is the best pokemon game and FFX is the best Final Fantasy, (which I played when I was younger, but didn't really like it until I beat it in my teens).
Pokemon games are solid. They're never really spectacular but they're never terrible. When you buy a Pokemon game you know what you're going to get, a good game to play on a road trip, on the can, etc. Very consistent series, like Mario (main titles). With Final Fantasy there's ones I like (FFX) and ones I hate (IX, XII) but with Pokemon they're all pretty much on even ground. The fact that it doesn't have a story also makes it beneficial to play whenever you have a little free time (or taking a dump) cause you don't have to follow the story.
I voted Red/Blue because they're a better rivalry, and while Cloud and Sephiroth are pretty cool, the fact that FFVII is so overrated makes me not want to vote for them usually. I say FFVII is overrated because no matter how good it is, it could never measure up to the level people put it on. I don't particularly like it either, but I will acknowledge it's a good game.
