It's more like Bioshock than Mass Effect, but if you liked either you will definitely like this.
I would actually recommend you to play the original Deus Ex first. The gameplay has aged very well, and the voice acting is so-bad-it's-great. It still does things better that no other game today (except DX:HR) does.
But regardless, you should definitely play DX:HR, really amazing game too. For $30 or $10 or even $60, it's worth it.
