There's nothing to hate him about it's just there's nothing to really like him about either. And it's not even just like, he has characteristics that are interesting that don't resonate with me-- it's like... he has no real notable characteristics at all. Incredibly boring character in my books-- that's enough for me to hate on him. Super bland is worse than normal bad most of the time for me.
I don't know, I liked him in Wind Waker and I think he fits his role decently in OoT (TP is a different story). He's not a particularly interesting character, but I have more reasons to like him than I have to dislike him in the end.
He's also one of the only three characters I ever play in SSBM, so that might have something to do with it.
