If you're playing on normal, or even hard, you don't really have to do any of that and just choose your own attacks.

Also, while you might be tempted to level a lot, but depending on what class you chose (Soldier, Scout, Scoundrel) you should hold off on leveling (you can actually not level except for the one time your forced to at the start of teh game) until you get to where you become a Jedi. The game caps you at 20, so it's important since more Jedi levels means more Force Powers and Force Points. Solider gets a lot of bonus feats which are useful, so it's viable to take it farther.

Ideally if you want to be a super force user to hold off on leveling as long as you can, and if you want to bash things with a lightsaber you can just level at will. Scout (the middleground) is okay, and you get some offensive options, but I never found it to be as powerful as a straight up hack and slash or just Force Waving everything.
