If he didn't insist on his stupid Sandman plot and instead just tried to make the best Venom movie he could, Spider-Man 3 would have been a hell of a lot better than it was.
He was already committed to Sandman at the time IIRC, and honestly Sandman was the best part of that movie. The fault lies in Sony barging in and forcing him to do Venom without proper time to set it up, without a script for it, and disregarding all the quality work he had done before. I mean, Doc Oc was not that great of a villain either, and Raimi worked wonders with him.
