You do have to take the permit class in order to actually get the permit, but you actually get the permit from the DMV after taking the class, which I thought was hilarious....send someone to one of the most reviled places you possibly can in order to get a permit to carry a gun.... lol

That clears some things up. I only have a rifle, but I'm still interested in taking a gun safety course (which I kind of wish was mandatory, but...).
