My opinion on the ending:

ME3 is not nearly as fun a game as ME2. ME2 had more character development (with a few exceptions) and had more fun sidequests and was generally more enjoyable to play. What ME3 had going for it was an extremely realistic war storyline. Yes, it was a bit slow at points, with the whole "Help the Turians, who want you to help the Krogan, who want you to cure the genophage" bit in the middle, but overall, it was very realistic and it felt like you're actually in a war. You don't have time to do a bunch of sidequests...people have to be sacrificed sometimes...people die. So when it comes to the ending...no, it's not a happy ending and it IS upsetting. But at the same time, the ending is realistic. One man sacrifices himself to save the galaxy. Yeah there's a bunch of flaws, but life is flawed. Honestly, I feel like having a happy ending would ruin the tone of the entire game up to that point, even if it would've made me happier.
