Just finished the first book. It was really good, despite a bunch of typos and a ton of sentence fragments. I'll probably go out and buy the other two tomorrow, even though I can only see them being a bunch of angst and HOW COULD YOU between Katniss, Gale, and Peeta.
I do wish the book went more into some of the other tributes, but I think that that stems more from the book being told entirely through Katniss's point of view. I think Collins made the right choice in going first person for all of the psychological stuff, and I think in the end, it was more effective. You basically know what Katniss knows; she didn't know anything about the other tributes nor does she care.
