I just realized that Katniss and Peeta basically avoid any serious confrontation. Kat worries about having to kill Rue and Peeta despite thinking of them as allies and she's afraid to have to fight Thresher and Foxface, but all of those are conveniently resolved by the plot without her help at all. Ehh.
I agree, I was a little disappointed that it seems Katniss never really had to face another tribute head on. She sort of did with Cato, but even then there was Peeta and the mutts to factor in. Honestly if in the end it was a Katniss/Rue final two I think we would have gotten something quite similar to Peeta and the berries. Thresh is good for the scene he's in, but isn't really a source of contention for Katniss.
I think a duel with Foxface could have been pretty intriguing though. Katniss' hunter's instinct and sharp shooting versus Foxface's obvious intellect and stealth. But the fighting isn't really what these books are about I don't think. It's a part of it but just like the love triangle it's not the most important part, so it's not fleshed out as if it is.
