Well aren't guys genetically made to hate the sound of a girl crying/in pain?
Nah, it's just that the reaction is different. When guys see other male figures go through emotional trauma, empathies are triggered and the guy projects himself into the scene. When a girl goes through something traumatic, by contrast, males trigger protective instead of sympathetic instincts. This is why having an antagonist do something cruel to a female lead is an effective way of villainizing that antagonist, even in entertainment directed towards a male audience.
