When I lived with my mother in my 20s and most of my 30s, my room was in the basement. It was bigger than my bedroom was when I was a kid (same house) and she became a hoarder, so my old bedroom was filled up with things anyway. I lived with her for so long because it was less expensive than trying to get a place of my own, even though I did look around at one point, and I was saving up to get a house, which I eventually did in 2019. I paid rent to my mother as well, so it wasn't like I was a freeloader.
