Honestly, I doubt it was significant. I definitely knew who Joker was before he was put in Smash since Persona 5 seemed pretty popular, plus I had already purchased and played it before he was even announced for Smash. I mean it started on PS3 (Japan only) and had a port on PS4 and PS5. I think Persona 5 was just a breakthrough for the series that put it on a lot of people's radar in general. It's the first Persona I played. According to google it seems like the game sold about 1.something millions in the first year and now it's over 10 millons. Personally I don't find it shocking that many people didn't know a character from a recent exclusive if it sold 1/2 millions. Honestly how many people discovered Fire Emblem because of Smash? I remember asking my mom for fire emblem when I was a teenaged kid because I saw Roy and Marth in smash Also didn't SE say DQ got increased sales in the west after putting hero in smash? --- Dragaux for smash! ...
