There is absolutely no way there isn't millions, maybe trillions of other civilizations out there. We know Life and intelligent life can happen because it happened here, and there's nothing inherently special about us.

The problem is that the universe is big. Like, really, really, REALLY big. And unless someone--us or them--figures out FTL travel, if it's even possible, then the chances of us ever crossing paths are close to zero.
