There is a parity to the tax system you are ignoring. If they release the movie, they pay taxes on what is earned. If they don't release the movie then they are afforded a tax credit for the loss.

It's fair.

It's fair to the corporate big wigs.

It's not fair to the animators, actors, director, casting, writers, stunt people, set designers, wardrobe department, hair and makeup artists, editors, camera operators, etc., many of whom could have used this movie to get a job on other projects if it had been successful, which test audiences combined with all the media attention it's been getting seem to indicate it would be.
