The Practice was about a small Criminal Defense Law firm, and the premise is they did whatever it took to get their clients off and treated that as 'noble' because the only way to assure the police and prosecutors ONLY convicted the guilty is to give every defendant a zealous defense. It often dealt with the moral weight it put on the defense attorneys, but it highlighted the importance of their role in a functioning legal system.
