You were basically buying a memory upgrade every time you bought a game. Paying for all the silicon involved, and for it to be soldered together. We've devalued things significantly over the last 30 years though, from movies to video games to music to TV. Like, a 14" black-and-white TV used to cost hundreds of dollars.
