Topic | What 8 hour a day, 40 hours a week job, pay a living wage? |
archizzy 02/25/24 9:13:09 PM #4: | I think a lot depends on geography. I live in the Midwest in a pretty good cost of living area. I make pretty good money for this area. The only bills I have are required monthly bills like utilities, cable/internet/phone, and my city water/garbage bill. Add in food and gas and that is pretty much the only money I need to spend each month.
I live on about $1,100 a month out of pocket. Truthfully it is a little more because I have property taxes on my house and insurance but I pay that once a year rather than monthly. So in reality it cost me about $1,500 a month to live. My house is completely paid off. My vehicle is completely paid off. There is opportunities to work overtime but these days at my age I just work my 40 hour week. I don't need any extra money. I put the majority of my check into savings/investing each month as it is. I'm pretty much just working for the insurance coverage not for money at this point. We have hired a few people in their 20's in the last couple years who were able to buy a house, and easily support their family working their 40 hours a week here where I work and they make less money than I do. They have house payments and vehicle payments and they are still doing ok. --- PSN ID: sled_dogs76 60" Pioneer Kuro Elite PRO151FD, Yamaha RX-V3900 A/V Receiver, Oppo DV983-H player.
