Game probably would have been much better received. But they HAD to chase the GAAS carrot. At the end of the day these characters aren't THAT popular, the gameplay loop is mid as fuck, the monetization is bullshit, and there's lots and LOTS of better games available elsewhere. Why would people marry themselves to THIS game unless they're absolute DC fanatics? It never made sense - totally feels like something corpos up top pushed down to the devs and said "Do this." Well that blew up and the studio might not GET to make another game.
